  • Take it or Leave It?

Somewhat akin to being the First day back at work after an entire month away…There is no way to downplay this one. :( Reality can just go bite it, thanks!

So, was just hanging out with my sister during Valentine’s day and we walked past Shunji Matsuo, this popular hair saloon here  and noticed, that there’s an opening for a receptionist and since it’s close by home, i decided to walk in to inquire. I prob don’t have the  ”Singaporean” look cos he asked if I was local? “Ummmm yeah.?!?” with a puzzled look on my face,  he smiled back and handed me  the application form..

The thing, is it’s not the job i wanted at all… I’m more suited for a PA job, i make a damn good secretary and there would be opp to travel which is what i want but I got this job just like that right away and i start today, and the hours are similar to retail hrs which sucks.. I don’t mind the hours tho, 12 pm-9 pm, It’s not like, i have much of a social life anyway but i really hate working thru the weekends.. and 6 days a week!! (Mel, stop complaining)

And, also i don’t know the art to negotiate discussing salary. I’m getting less than what i was earning before.. I’m weighing everything down and i’m also tired of being useless at home.. I hate not doing anything and i’m getting bored of life..

I’ll see how it goes today, maybe the dude can do something bout my bangs, a trim maybe and see if he’s willing to increase it a little, i mean what if i wanted to go on a holiday, what if i wanted to adopt a puppy or board a kitty in the hopes of owning fluffy things (Owls are  considered fluffy things…) annnnd i have all this expenses for good food in some nice places and i’d also like to start saving at least 30% of income and be a women of leisure :)

  • I think that it’s a good boost to at least get some income while you’re still looking for a PA job. And besides, pets are expensive… but they’re less expensive than actual children. See it out and make some monies.

    • Well it went well, i asked for an increase before the day ended and they agreed to, i asked for two days to think it o’er and that i’d get back to them, the benefits are kinda attractive as well and plus near home and i get to have my hair done by professionals monthly just that i don’t get to have much of a proper lunch break which sucks but that’s okay.. I think, i might take it and stick to it and get past the probation and see how it goes, at least i got a job.. without much effort at all or not, see how it goes and I def wanna own a baby owl, pups and kitty.. Thanks for the confidence boost sweet cheeks.

  • Yayy, that’s the spirit! Sucks about the lunch, though. How long is your lunch break with them? And owls and puppies and kitties! And you’re welcome, beautiful. ^_^ <3

    • Jojo said not to waste time and that now is a good time to start applying and that’s how retail hours is like, the other time, when i worked there for a trial.. I didn’t had my breakfast yet and thought lunch would be like at 2 or 3 pm but i had to wait till like 6 plus and had to be done in like 10 mins cos it gets so busy and i was getting pissed seeing a lot of people… Meh, i’m so lazy and jojo was saying, if i applied for corporate jobs now, they would be looking for experiences and receptionist in a hair saloon doesn’t quite match up! I dunno, I don’t handle rejections well either..

  • Awww, I’m sorry, sweetums. :( I don’t know the certain laws there in Singapore, but here in the US, employees are required to have minimum 30 minute lunch breaks, or else the employers will get heavily fined. The thing is, while a hair receptionist job may not seem like a match up to corporate, it does offer the employer an idea that you can handle customer service and multitasking. I know that rejection really sucks, and I usually got bummed too in the past when some places told me no thanks. But, you just need to brush it off and keep your head up! I’m sure you’ll find something at the right time, pumpkin. For the time being, keep on keeping on, sweets! <3

    • Yeah there’s that legal liability here too. I’m just used to office settings, this is just a little weird, I’ll adapt, also even if I moved to a corporate position, long working hours are like normal in ASEAN countries but at least, I get the weekends off.. :/

How are you btw, what’s new and have you moved yet and thank you Saibonnnn for being here for me. :)
Again, thank you for the confidence boost bon, you’re so sweet!!

      <3 xo

  • Ah, I see. Yeah, I took me a bit to adjust when I got this job going from my other job, which was a cafe.

I’m doing alright. Nothing new as of yet, and no, haven’t moved yet. Parents and I are out looking for apartment since they figured if I’m gonna start paying rent, maybe I’ll just need a place of my own. And you’re always welcome, Melly. ^_^ And I do what I can. *shy hand swat* <3
