Intervention
As some of you may know, i teach primary school science and mathematics, being a teacher, i get parents asking me if their kids needs tutoring and “really it depends on your kids progress”.
Every child is different, some needs a little push, esp with a linear subject like Maths, the need for intervention is absolutely necessary.
You cannot just depend on the teacher and expect your kid to be a genius, children needs extra coaxing at home too.
If the child is already struggling with a particular mathematical concept, it’s gonna be a struggle to master advance mathematical concepts or formula.
Just because, a child received poor grades in school or shows no interest in the subject doesn’t mean he or she is inadequate, it just means, the subject is boring and this is when you child needs a tutor and equips the child with knowledge as they are trained to and make the subject as interesting as possible.
My parents took it up a notch and bought those expensive brain booster milkshakes that came in many flavour that tasted yucky for me to drink when i was young not like it helped me in maths…
I never really enjoyed mathematics and wasn’t my strongest subject either but i only got better because of the tutoring i received and not some brain booster milkshake..:P lol

Bet you wished more parents listened hey mel. I have a natural aptitude toward most things academic but I was never really pushed as a kid by my parents….Wish they did now because whats the point of natural IQ without formal training (paper). Not much I am afraid. Keep banging those drums mel hopeful someone will hear. Cheers mate
I agree. My parents, being the stereotypical Asian parents that they are, reinforced how important education is with multiple textbooks, learning softwares, SAT prepwork, etc. It was pretty helpful though. I was an A-student up until college when its freedom structure sorta distracted me a bit. lol
I wish those milkshakes worked, ha, I could use one right now.
Loved math, hated science! Same thing though. Maybe with extra help I would have come to like it!
i agree that every child has different potential and interest. math is a hard subject and kids should be receiving additional coachimg.from their parents for this subject or even wih other subjects.
You were fortunate.
My dad wanted me to quit school at age 16 and work in the family business, but he died when I was 13. Mom persuaded me to try junior college. I had not help along the way except my band director encouraged me to study for the first time in my life.
I graduated with a 4 year degree in 8 years with a C average and flunked out once and went back.
It is nice when parents take an interest in education for their children.
