When asked how it was possible to visit three churches of such divergent creeds? Van Gogh said ”Well in every church, I see God and its all the same to me whether a protestant pastor or a roman catholic priest preaches, it is not really a matter of dogma, but of the spirit of the gospel, and i find this spirit in all churches”

On another occasion, he expressed his opinion in these terms: For what’s the use of a beautiful body? Animals have it too perhaps more than man, but the soul as it lives in the people painted by Israels or Millet or Frere, that is what animals never have. Is not life given to us to become richer in spirit, even though the outward appearance may suffer.

What does it matter personally than! I feel so strongly that it is the same with people as it is with wheat, if you are not sown in the earth to germinate, what does it matter? In the end, you are the ground between the milestones to become bread.

The difference between happiness an unhappiness! Both are useful and necessary as well as death or disappearance… It is so relative and life is the same.

“It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to, the feeling for the things themselves, for reality is more important than the feeling for pictures.”

    ~Vincent Van Gogh
